Sadie Woods (American) is an award-winning post-disciplinary artist, independent curator, and deejay whose work explores media at the intersections of social movements, liberatory practices, cultural memory and preservation, and immersive, interactive experience. Working across public art, sculpture, sound, performance, text, photography, and research, she creates site-responsive and experiential works that engage critical temporalities, affects, and struggles of the American experience while honoring diasporic cultural production across the Americas and Global South.
Her deejay practice centers music as a vehicle for history, identity, and collective memory, shaping community through electronic and symphonic formats including Afrodjia Social Club orchestral DJ sets. She has participated in national and international residencies including Arts + Public Life, Bemis Center, Wave Farm, Ecole du Magasin, High Concept Labs, and Independent Curators International. Her work has been presented at venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Busan Biennale, Chicago Cultural Center, Millennium Park, and EXPO Chicago.
She holds a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is a Resident Deejay at Lumpen Radio and Wave Farm.
