My artistic production continues a line of reflections related to the detection of the limits to which identity discourses are subject, and which are generally imposed from the power mechanisms of cultural coercion. I explore identities from the individual as social, cultural or gender, as well as the reflection and questioning of the construction of colonial discourses and their power relations to dismantle the structures of colonialism, using the review of historical and bibliographic sources, traditions, past and present, as well as the experience of life as a Puerto Rican in exile.I use the self-portrait to reaffirm and vindicate my Afro-descendants and I work from the decolonial critical theory to question and investigate my past, connect with our ancestral wisdom, oral history and recover all those silenced and buried stories.
