What does historical justice look like? After a successful world premiere in Puerto Rico, Desarchivar la Mirada comes to CENTRO for its New York premiere! Don’t miss the opening night of this compelling exhibition challenging the original purpose of postcards produced between 1898 and 1915. As Puerto Rico entered its colonial status under the U.S., the territory was intensely photographed. These images played a role in constructing “otherness” that was legible and exportable; part of a visual regime that accompanied the island’s political, economic, and symbolic reorganization following Spanish American war.
