Wendyliz Martinez is a 2024-2026 American Council of Learned Societies Leading Edge Fellow at the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, where she developed a digital humanities project on the history of slavery in New Jersey. She earned her Ph.D. in English and African American Studies from Penn State University. She currently writes about Black girlhood and its depictions across social media, film, and literature. She is also interested in Black art practices and their impact on our understanding of Blackness as well as their role in preserving histories.
