Moral Economies of Colonial Capitalism Research Assistant

Centro’s research unit is an interdisciplinary hub that brings together students, scholars, and community partners to investigate urgent themes facing our communities. Over the past decades our scholars have produced benchmark publications that have transformed the field of Puerto Rican Studies and timely reports that have shaped national debate, most recently in regard to Puerto Rico’s economic crisis, austerity politics, post-disaster migration and hurricane recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare annotated bibliographies of primary and secondary sources identified through research online and/or in the Centro Library and Archives on assigned topics
  • Transcribe interviews (in Spanish)
  • Conduct research on the publishing industry/market (publishers, existing similar books, etc.)
  • Read and share thoughts on chapter or section drafts (readability, intelligibility, coherence, etc.)
  • Assorted administrative tasks such as printing, copying, scanning, and organizing files.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required (high proficiency is strongly preferred).
  • Prior experience conducting online and library research is required.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with Puerto Rican culture and history is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with categories of critical theory/analysis (class, colonialism/coloniality, gender/sexuality, race/ethnicity, etc.) are preferred.
  • Prior experience transcribing is preferred.
