Education
The Education Unit develops curricula, educational programming, events, exhibitions, and a variety of educational materials and resources highlighting primary resource materials and publications on the Puerto Rican Diaspora in the CENTRO Library & Archives. We present key contributions of Puerto Rican individuals and diasporic collectives that have been overlooked in historical narratives and primary research while also providing a focus on current issues. Our work is attuned to the experiences of Diasporicans, and considers community building, leadership, and also marginalization based on race, class, gender, disabilities, aging, language, migration, and climate change in both the Archipelago and the Diaspora. We also produce innovative and culturally sustaining educational materials that are responsive to historical projects and social and political issues that affect Puerto Rico and the Diasporican community. We engage the community through events that include teacher professional development training and student and educator workshops, film screenings, and exhibitions.
