Library Lunch Hour - Readers Choice!
November 23, 2021
12:00 - 1:00 PM EST
1:00pm - 2pm (Puerto Rico AST)
You asked, we answered! We looked at our submissions for Library Lunch Hour requests and chose our top four most popular requests (which you voted on)! The polls are closed and the votes tallied and you voted for Puerto Migration Stateside! We’re focusing on our collection of the OGPRUS Identification Program.
The Identification and Documentation records group consists of official records documenting the administration of the ID program among whose functions was the distribution of English language identification cards for Puerto Rican migrants to prove their United States citizenship. The documents contain a wealth of information on individual migrants and constitute a rich source for genealogical research as well for other areas of migration studies, such as citizenship and settlement patterns.
Aníbal Arocho is the Library Manager at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies Library & Archive at CUNY Hunter College. He manages library reference services and a growing collection of over 18,000 items. He holds a Masters of Science in Library and Information Science from the Pratt Institute.
