Dr. Janelle Ashley Viera

Hybrid Fellow

Dr. Janelle Ashley Viera is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Colorado State University (CSU). Her research incorporates theoretical insights from Sociology, Latino Studies, and Black Studies to explore racial formation, incorporation, and inequality among Latine diasporic populations. Her current projects examine ethnoracial identity construction among Puerto Ricans in New York City and Central Florida. Janelle received CSU’s College of Liberal Arts 2025 Excellence in Teaching Award for her innovative pedagogy. She is a Mellon Mays Fellow who earned her B.A. from Swarthmore College and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
