Puerto Ricans in Ohio: 2010 – 2018

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2018, Ohio had the 10th largest concentration of Puerto Ricans in the United States (137,104). Puerto Ricans accounted for 1.2 percent of the total population in Ohio. Despite the low proportion of the total Ohio population Puerto Ricans represented, this number has grown from 94,965 in 2010 to 137,104 in 2018 – an increase of more than 44%. Hispanics accounted for 3.9 percent of the total population in Ohio, and Puerto Ricans represented 30.1 percent of the state’s Hispanic or Latino population in 2018. Therefore, nearly one in every three Latinos in Ohio was Puerto Rican. As of 2018, the Puerto Rican population was the second largest group of Latinos in Ohio after Mexicans (45.3%), and together they comprised 75 percent of the state’s Latino population.
