Short-Form Content Creator

The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO) at Hunter College, is a university-based research institute whose mission is to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the experiences of Puerto Ricans in the U.S. and to collect, preserve, and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans. To complement these core activities, CENTRO sponsors a year-round program of educational and cultural activities.

About the Position:
The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO) at Hunter College is seeking a part-time Short Form Content Creator to help promote the organization’s various programs, events, publications, and initiatives to a wider audience. We are looking for a dynamic and talented individual to join our team as an early career part-time Short-Form Content Creator.

This is a great opportunity to learn how to implement a social media strategy as part of a larger institutional strategy, sharpen project management skills, and explore creative ways to highlight our work as a research institution serving a community of students, researchers, artists, writers, scholars, and more! 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pitch content ideas to staff to develop short form videos with key stakeholders on CENTRO staff. 
  • Utilize CENTRO’s resources to create compelling short educational videos that highlight Puerto Rican culture, history, and current events.
  • Research and stay up-to-date on relevant topics and trends related to the Puerto Rican community while monitoring trends on social media to inform potential content ideas.
  • Attend major institutional events (during and outside business hours) where staff, audience, and VIPs may be present.
  • Produce, develop, edit, and film short form videos with occasional assistance from the Communications team and Media department.
  • This role is public facing and may require you to share content that utilizes your voice and shows your face.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Marketing, Communications, or a similar field.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in short form content creation on digital platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Director of Communications and other staff members.
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines
  • Experience with Capcut, Adobe Premiere, Canva, Asana, and Google Drive preferred, or a willingness to learn these programs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish not required, but a plus.
  • Knowledge of Puerto Rican culture and history is a plus.

Status: Part-Time/Tax-Levy: College Assistant  (20 hrs./week)
Salary range:  $19.12-$26.44 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Location: New York, NY
Benefits: Sick time and Vacation after 520 hours worked each fiscal year
Ability to commute/relocate:  Hired staff must reside within the NY Metro area.

Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required).
