Receptionist

The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO) at Hunter College, is a university-based research institute whose mission is to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the experiences of Puerto Ricans in the U.S. and to collect, preserve, and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans. To complement these core activities, CENTRO sponsors a year-round program of educational and cultural activities.

About the Position:

CENTRO is currently seeking a welcoming and pleasant individual for the position of Receptionist. As the Receptionist, you will be responsible for welcoming in-person visitors, answering incoming calls and directing them to the appropriate staff member, maintaining a presentable reception area, maintaining a clean and organized common area and kitchen. The Receptionist will play a key role in ensuring a pleasant and effective guest experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish (written and verbal).
  • Answer incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate staff member
  • Manage general voicemailbox and share messages with appropriate parties
  • Receive visitor requests and notify the building visitor’s center
  • Greet and direct visitors upon their arrival
  • Maintain a clean and organized reception area
  • Kitchen and lunch area upkeep
  • Keep a list of kitchen and cleaning supplies that need to be replenished
  • Assist Office Manager with ad-hoc projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications: Finalists should meet a majority of the following qualifications

  • Experience with a multi-line phone system
  • Familiarity with Puerto Rican culture and current social issues is a plus but not a requirement
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality customer service
  • Experience with Google suite and Microsoft Outlook

Job Type:
Full-time Equivalent – Maximum 35 hours per week

Compensation:
Hourly pay range: $19.12- $26.44 commensurate with experience & qualifications

Benefits:
Annual & sick leave accrual

Schedule:
Monday to Friday 9AM-5PM

Ability to commute/relocate:
East Harlem, NY: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
