Puerto Rican Voices Series Producer
The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, is a university-based research institute whose mission is to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the experiences of Puerto Ricans in the U.S. and to collect, preserve, and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans. To complement these core activities, Centro sponsors a year-round program of educational and cultural activities.
About the Position
The Puerto Rican Voices (PRV) Series Producer will coordinate, support, and supervise all processes of development, pre-production, production and post-production of Puerto Rican Voices’ episodes. The PRV Series Producer is also in charge of all general aspects of production, including developing workflows, style, promotion, and distribution. The Series Producer will also coordinate the masterclasses, and facilitate discussions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
General
- Manage Puerto Rican Voices Series using Asana project management software
- Administer series budget
- Point person between independent directors and Centro Media Team
- Produce PRV short-form content for use across social media platforms
- Work with the Communications team to draft press releases announcing events and open calls
- Work with the Events team to coordinate public presentations and screenings
Development
- Work with the Communications team to promote the Open Call for pitches by reaching filmmakers directly and sharing on CENTRO’s newsletter and social media platforms.
- Revise production and editorial handbook.
- Design and host webinars for potential applicants.
- Coordinate masterclasses.
- Create a rubric for reviewers.
- Coordinate group of reviewers to evaluate the applications.
- Gather and organize applications.
- Evaluate submissions along with the evaluation committee.
- Assist in the contracting process of filmmakers.
- Work with the Communications team to share assets (photos and bios) for press releases announcing recipients of the award.
Pre-Production
- Work with filmmakers to develop a production plan for their episodes.
- Work with filmmakers to discuss potential story arcs for their episode.
- Support filmmakers with research and coordination of resources.
- Create discussion prompts for meetings with filmmakers
Production
- Provide support for filmmakers shooting in the field. Including providing filmmakers with resources, troubleshooting, and decision making.
- Gather clearances, behind the scenes photographs, and video files.
- Coordinate the transcription of audio files for editing.
- Coordinate and facilitate cohort meetings.
Post-Production
- Review and/or redo general graphics of the series: locators, lower-thirds, credits.
- Coordinate and facilitate cohort meetings to watch the episodes and provide feedback.
- Review fact-checking and quality control processes.
- Review the video cuts delivered by filmmakers: rough cuts, fine cuts and final cuts.
- Work with filmmakers to finalize and package all materials ready for distribution.
- Coordinate the publication of the episodes online.
- Create a trailer for the entire season and individual episodes.
- Develop study-guides for each episode in collaboration with the Education unit.

Part-time (19 hrs/week average)

$35.00/hr
