On December 6th, 2022, Centro was able to host a free advanced screening of Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story for our friends and members of the community. Over 200 people showed up and were able to watch the movie in full for the first time.
It was a fantastic opportunity to be able to provide our diverse community with a safe and accessible space to watch the film, as well as reconnect with us around a project that was fueled by the Centro archives.
A few days after the premiere, Centro hosted an Afternoon Tertulia – Reimagining West Side Story: A Critical Discussion of the Remake, where panelists offered insights into how the remake both reproduces and remedies the limitations and silences of the original.
