Since 1998, vagabond has dedicated a vast amount of his writing, art, and filmmaking talents to the Puerto Rican independence movement. This show is a collection of 25 years worth of his art and agit-prop. July 25th, 1998 marked the 100th anniversary of the US invasion of Puerto Rico which led to ongoing an occupation and colonization of the island nation. Along with other individuals and community organizations, he launched a graffiti tagging agit-prop campaign that grew to full blown large scale murals. The only surviving mural is the ALBIZU / CHE, also known as the DOS ALAS mural.
Visit THE ART OF RESISTANCE: DECOLONIZATION RICANSTRUCTED: 25 Years of Art & Agit-Prop by vagabond with curator Tontxi Vazquez and co-curator Ana Hilda Figueroa de Jesús at El Taller Boricua from May 24-July 21, 2024. Exhibition will be open from Tuesday – Saturday 12 – 6pm; Monday & Sunday closed.
