The Multicultural Music Group (MMG) is thrilled to announce the 2024 Multicultural Music Encounter. This year’s event will take place at the Lovinger Theater, Lehman College, on Friday, June 7, at 7 p.m. This year’s performance will showcase a dynamic repertoire in the form of a musical retrospective celebrating the almost 30 years of the Multicultural Music Group Orchestra (MMGO)’s establishment in 1996. Audiences can look forward to the following pieces: – “Mambo Show” by Charlie Palmieri reflects the composer’s vibrant legacy. – “Plena Pa’ Vieques” by Ray Santos explores the presence of the U.S. Marines and the Vieques protests in Puerto Rico. – “2nd Chance” by Luis Mojica and Ray Santos celebrates Charlie Palmieri’s recovery from a heart attack with a story of resilience and hope. – “Seis” by Ray Santos is a tribute to the influential composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk. – “Attacks and Expansion” by Eddie Palmieri is a spiritual exploration of African ancestry. – “Yambu Pa’ Inglaterra” by Eddie Palmieri bridges the generational gap between Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri while examining their influence on music trends. – “A Bedtime Song in a Carnival Day” by Luis Mojica and Charlie Palmieri reflects on the Ponce Carnival and historical events surrounding the pier shutdown. – “Jibarito: The Borinqueneers” by Ray Santos highlights the valor of the 65th Infantry during the Korean Conflict. The 2024 Multicultural Music Encounter celebrates the orchestra’s anniversary and reflects its ongoing commitment to educating and inspiring younger generations through music. This free event is a must-attend for lovers of music and history alike. Get your tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/897291833027?aff=oddtdtcreator. About The Multicultural Music Group, Inc.
