Dúo Copla is a classical guitar duo from Puerto Rico that focuses on performing, arranging, and recording music by Puerto Rican composers. In this presentation, Dr. José Maldonado (John Jay College) and Prof. Ernesto Ramos (Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico) will perform and share historical insights about the 19th-century Puerto Rican Danza, exploring its history and its role in Puerto Rican anticolonial movements. Additionally, the duo will discuss the development of classical guitar in Puerto Rico and present solo and duo works from the 20th to 21st centuries. The program will feature music by Manuel Gregorio Tavárez, Juan Morel Campos, Rafael Hernández, Leonardo Egúrbida, Juan Sorroche, and Ernesto Cordero.
