Afternoon Tertulia: ¡Vivas nos queremos! Exploring the CENTRO Summer 2023 Journal on Femicide
Cost: Free
April 18 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm EDT
On September 28, 2020, the Black transfeminist collective, La Colectiva Feminista, summoned and organized the “¡Vivas nos queremos! — pa’ la tumba el patriarcado” march to end in front of La Fortaleza, the governor’s mansion, in Old San Juan, repeating their call to the Puerto Rican government to declare a State of Emergency due to the rising rates of femicide and gender-based violence on the island.
In response to the epidemic of gender-based violence affecting women and trans women after Hurricane María, the CENTRO Press has released a special issue of CENTRO Journal: ¡Vivas nos queremos!: The Femicide and Gender Violence Epidemic in Puerto Rico and the Diaspora. Join the journal’s editor Dr. Tania Carrasquillo & Dr. Diana Aramburu, along with Dr. Elithet Silva Martínez, Cris Seda Chabrier, & Dr. Aurora Santiago Ortiz for an Afternoon Tertulia as they dive into the pages of the CENTRO Journal which aim to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and inspire collective action to address the pressing issue of gender-based violence on the island.
