Digital Projects Coordinator

(Full-time equivalent)

Location:
Center for Puerto Rican Studies, Hunter College, East Building, 68th ST & Lexington Ave

Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 35 hour work week

Start Date: Available immediately Closing Date: Open until filled

Compensation:
Salary range: 36,400-40,300 commensurate with work experience, salary history and falls within established university guidelines. Position is full time equivalent (comprised of 2 part time funding sources).  Limited fringe benefits available.

Assignments & Supervision:
Work assignments may vary depending upon library and archival project needs. Work under the supervision of the Digital Archivist, and may oversee the work of college assistants for specific projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the implementation of assigned digital projects.
  • Contribute to the development of digital collections.  
  • Enforce best practices for processing, quality control, content management, and preservation of digital collections according to national standards.
  • Solve problems, answer questions and provide technical solutions to supervisors and staff.
  • Oversee training and supervision of other project team members.
  • Maintain statistics and prepare official project reports as requested.
  • Responsible for technical aspects of digital project outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Puerto Rican history and culture with special emphasis on knowledge of digital humanities regarding Puerto Ricans in the United States and an excellent grasp on information in Puerto Rican studies including digital based resources desired.
  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities may be considered such as a Bachelor’s degree plus two years’ experience involving digitization in a library, archives, or museum environment.
  • Experience with digitizing archival material.
  • Knowledge of format and encoding standards such as METS, MODS, EAD, TIFF, JP2.Proven ability to learn new technologies and adaptability to master and manage multiple workflows.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, make constructive recommendations, interpret and apply policies and procedures, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications in both English and Spanish, meticulous and accurate recordkeeping, track record of meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Experience with databases and software, including content management systems such as Collective Access and intranet/document management systems such as SharePoint.
  • Familiarity or knowledge of digital preservation issues and experience handling rare and delicate archival and library materials.
  • Working knowledge of copyright law and fair use.

Centro is a research center dedicated to the study and interpretation of the Puerto Rican experience in the United States. Centro is the primary repository of archival and library materials dedicated to stateside Puerto Ricans. Centro is committed to facilitating research projects useful to those in community organizations, public policy, and academia. Supports research projects and activities in connection with CUNY programs by assisting in quantitative data management including data and database collection, reduction, formatting and maintenance as well as data analysis. Performs multiple variable regression analyses. Assists in preparing literature reviews; tables, charts, and figure creation and formatting; manuscript development. Projected start date: January 2017. Appointment would be for one academic year. Subsequent appointments are contingent on funding and performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the research being performed.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in economics, statistics, policy, planning, business or other related field is preferred.
  • Training and experience in applied statistics are required. Training in economics or public policy is desirable. A minimum of 1-2 years of work experience is desirable.
  • Essential Software skills: SPSS or Stata for descriptive and statistical analysis.
  • MS Excel to construct spreadsheet models and to make publication quality graphics. MS Word competence including page and document formatting.
  • Knowledge of issues related to economics, policy, and the analysis of social conditions in Puerto Rico and among stateside Puerto Ricans and related topics.
  • Outstanding communications and writing skills. It is desirable, but not in any way required, that the candidate have language skills in Spanish.
  • Ability to work independently and with small groups in academic settings.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience within the range for this title. ($35,244 - $45,467- existing collective bargaining agreement salaries)

The Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños (Centro), the only University-based research institute in the United States devoted to the interdisciplinary study of the Puerto Rican experience, seeks an academic researcher with expertise in any one of the wide range of disciplines within history, social sciences, or behavioral sciences, including those interdisciplinary in nature, to complement its current research capacity. This is a non-tenure track position that reports directly to the director.

The Research Associate responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide assistance with academic research and publish studies in peer-reviewed journals and other academic venues on Puerto Rican stateside communities.

- May assist in presenting papers at disciplinary conferences.
- Support and perform other research related duties as assigned by the Director.

- Participate on Centro-wide staff committees. Appointment will be for one academic year. Start date: January 2017

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate from a Ph.D. program with a "post-doc" project for completion, such as converting a dissertation into a book, publishing chapters of a dissertation in peer-referred journals, or writing articles or chapters for a book in a new area of research where all data has been collected. English and Spanish fluency are required.
