Office Assistant

Start Date: Available immediately         Closing Date: Open until filled

Status: Part-Time (20 hrs./week)

Salary range:  $20-25/hr (commensurate with experience and qualifications)

About the Position:

The Centro Operations Team serves to facilitate and support the major operations of the institution. The core functions of the unit are to manage Centro’s personnel, budget, facilities, technology, and publications sales. Working in collaboration with the Associate Director for Operations, the Financial Manager and the Office Manager, the candidate will be responsible for corresponding with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate Centro’s daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Budgetary and financial:

  • Under the supervision of the Financial Manager, processes invoices, requisitions, purchase orders & supply orders under the policies and procedures mandated for use with Centro’s NY State budget funds, Research Foundation accounts, and Centro Hunter College soft monies accounts.
  • Make Centro check deposits at the Hunter College Bursar’s Office.


  • Assist the Office Manager with biweekly timesheet and personnel file record management.
  • Assist the Office Manager with performing routine office maintenance and clerical duties.
  • Assists Associate Director for Operations in organizing Centro’s archival operations records prior to transferring files to Centro Archives.


Educational Background: Minimum of a high school diploma is required

  • Junior level college students and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
  • Related work experience preferred 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite: Word and Excel strongly preferred.
  • Reliable attendance practices are preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish is preferred 
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact professionally with staff, visitors, and external contacts.
  • Effective time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Capable of multitasking and managing various responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and provide support across Centro as needed.
