Following the success of last fall’s book tour in support of Centro Publications’ Puerto Ricans at the Dawn of the New Millennium, new dates and cities are being added in the coming months. Dr. Edwin Meléndez, Centro’s director, will once again present and lead a discussion on the Millennium book at various venues around the United States.
The book is a collection of essays by both Centro and outside researchers on a variety of topics reflecting the changing Puerto Rican experience in the United States. In his presentations, Dr. Meléndez will summarize and analyze the findings in the book, from an in-depth analysis of Puerto Rican migration patterns (both between the island and the mainland, and internally within the United States) to discussions of health, education, and economic conditions for Puerto Ricans.
The fall tour, which included stops in New York, Holyoke, MA, Humacao, and San Juan, received generous press coverage including reports in Primera Hora, Universia, Mass Live, El Nuevo Día, and UPR’s Diálogo Digital. The new tour will include presentations in Orlando, Chicago, Miami, three New York colleges (tba) and a round table in collaboration with the Federal Bank of New York on the topic of current economy and Puerto Rican migration. Stay tuned for specific information about upcoming dates.
Puerto Ricans at the Dawn of the New Millennium is available for purchase at the Centro Store.
