Psychoanalysis  in the Barrios : Race, Class and the Unconscious


Panel will discuss pressing issues raised by the new anthology Psychoanalysis in the Barrios: Race, Class, and the Unconscious, and features co-editors Patricia Gherovici and Christopher Christian, as well as Puerto  Rican psychoanalyst Alfredo Carrasquillo. Taking as point of departure the barrios, the panel seeks to break the invisible borders in which psychoanalysis finds itself and bring the barrio back into a renewed psychoanalysis. 

Patricia Gherovici is a psychoanalyst and analytic supervisor. She is Co-founder and Director of the Philadelphia Lacan Group and Associate Faculty, University of Pennsylvania; Her books include The Puerto Rican Syndrome, winner of the Gradiva Award and the Boyer Prize.

Christopher  Christian is Editor-in-Chief of Psychoanalytic Psychology and Dean of the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research He is on the faculty of the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education, affiliated with NYU, School of Medicine. 

Alfredo Carrasquillo is a psychoanalyst, organizational development consultant and executive coach based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Retired Professor of Graduate Studies at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, he is a member of the Puerto Rico Psychoanalytic Society.
