Location: First Spanish United Methodist Church – The People’s Church in East Harlem

Cost:Free

April 6 @ 5:30 pm 7:00 pm EDT

Join CENTRO and the UPR – Ponce Campus Choir at the People’s Church in East Harlem for a live musical performance! The University of Puerto Rico in Ponce concert choir is a non-profit organization that works as a creative space of excellence, where students of different specialties with economic needs come together to perform traditional Puerto Rican music. You can enjoy this free concert at the People’s Church in Harlem, formally known as the First Spanish United Methodist Church, a landmark that has been in this community for almost a hundred years and has a rich political history in the East Harlem community: occupied by the Young Lords, the Puerto Rican counterpart to the Black Panthers in the Civil Rights Movement!

Events at the People’s Church are always free and open to the public, which is why we must ensure this historical landmark stays open! Unfortunately, the church is in danger of being closed after loosing one of their biggest funders; support their go fund me and ensure this we have safe and accepting convening spaces in El Barrio! Donate here!

This event is part of the CENTRO 50th Anniversary Celebration! Join us all of 2023 in celebrating 50 years of CENTRO’s work to strengthen, diversify, and reimagine the field of Puerto Rican Studies!
