Puerto Rican activist takeover of the Statue of Liberty

Carlos Ortiz Papers, 1940s-2006

Thirty Puerto Rican activists occupied the Statue of Liberty to protest the incarceration of four Puerto Rican nationalists and draped the Puerto Rican flag from the crown. The occupation lasted eight hours.
