Anita Vélez Mitchell Papers, 1950s-2013

Anita Vélez Mitchell with orchestra conductor Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) the composer of West Side Story. The musical play was very important in Vélez Mitchell's dance and acting career. She met Bernstein through her son-in-law Maurice Peress who was assistant conductor for the New York Philharmonic during Bernstein's tenure in the 1960s.
