A Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal procession

Justo A. Martí Photographic Collection, 1948-1985

Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal procession, Newark, New Jersey. Religiously affiliated processions involved the community, with participants drawn from the congregation, rather than religious leaders. In this photograph, church members carried banners representing the Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal Inc. of Newark, NJ, and marched past City Hall and other streets, signifying the expansion of Spanish-speaking peoples beyond New York City to outlying regions. Photograph taken by Justo A. Martí for La Prensa newspaper. Inscription on back of photograph: "Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal de 1114 de Newark, pasando frente a City Hall y otros sectores y calles pricipales de la ciudad, tomado para la Prensa."
