La Flor de Borinquen

Justo A. Martí Photographic Collection, 1948-1985

La Flor de Borinquen self-service store and delivery truck is one of Justo A. Martí’s most iconic photographs. El Comercio, a local newspaper in Brooklyn, commissioned the photograph. The image captured William, the driver and clerk, in the Antonio Villamil bodega located on 72 Tompkins Avenue. In the background of this photograph, the storefront is partially viewed. Very few bodega stores had delivery services for customers. (Retouched photograph for the Bodega exhibit.)
