CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

De la O discusses the issue of identity which she defines as a complex concept. She gives as an example when she lived in Florida and was surrounded by Cubans many of who consider themselves Cuban-Americans. She says, however, this is not the case with Puerto Ricans born in the States. The singer also talks about the misconceptions of what being Puerto Rican means and the general stereotypes that are created around the Puerto Rican identity.
