CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

De la O describes the interaction among the different ethnic groups that existed in East Harlem back in the 1940s and 1950s. She asserts that the Spanish speaking communities shared more together, recalling that the Dominican community arrived to El Barrio in the late 1950s and 1960s, and most of the newcomers established small businesses in the neighborhood.
