Sixto Escobar, Patsy and a comedian

Justo A. Martí Photographic Collection, 1948-1985

Sixto Escobar, "El Gallito", was the first Puerto Rican to win a Bantamweight World Championship. He was pictured here beside Fernandes, comedian and program director at Spanish-language radio station WEVD, and Mexican boxer Patsy (right). The men were standing in front of Sixto's restaurant, where fight attendees and boxers celebrated, eating at the restaurant on Sundays. Sixto's was located on West 43rd Street in New York City.
