Interview with Bob Cortes on April 27, 2016, Segment 1

CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

Cortes discusses his parents and siblings, and his early childhood growing up in the projects in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. He discusses the important role the public school he attended, PS 81, played in the community as a place for gathering and an extension of home. Cortes explains that Puerto Ricans in the neighborhood followed the same traditions and celebrated the same festivities as they did in Puerto Rico.
