Interview with Bob Cortes on April 27, 2016, Segment 5

CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

Cortes discusses how he became involved in politics after the Mayor of Longwood, John Mango, invited him to run for an elected position. He was elected Longwood Commissioner in 2009, in 2010 and 2012 Longwood Deputy Mayor, and in 2014 the first Hispanic Mayor in Seminole Co. Florida. He explains how part of his platform was fighting against excessive government burdens to small business owners by imposing high taxes and how he views himself as an elected official who happens to be Puerto Rican.
