Lourdes Torres Papers, 1968-2000

Protester holding sign with slogan "Time & Life, Nuestra Dignidad No Se Vende" ("Time & Life, Our Dignity is Not For Sale") during protest against the movie Fort Apache, The Bronx, 1981. "Time & Life" referred to Time-Life Television Productions Inc., producer of the film. Bronx community groups picketed Fort Apache, The Bronx (1981), and threatened lawsuits against the producers over the negative way in which the film presented the neighborhood and ethnic minorities. The movie was a crime drama, depicting the South Bronx unfavorably.
