CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

During the burning of buildings in the Bronx, Badillo had the intention of inviting the president of that time, Jimmy Carter, to the area and broadcast his visit to the press. Vlasto explains that Badillo, as deputy mayor, must have had resistance from Mayor Koch, who did not want the president visiting New York at that particular time.
