Interview with Juan J. González on April 8, 2016, Segment 18

CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

González talks about his role as host of Camden’s public-interest radio talk show,“Pa’lante Con Camden/Moving Camden Forward.” It airs every other Sunday morning, 8:30am-9:30am, on LaMega Radio, 105.7FM/1310AM out of Philadelphia. The Mayor of Camden, Dana Redd, appointed him in 2011 to represent the Mayor’s office for a City Administration hour. Every other week Dr. Luis Lopez of Camden’s City Council hosts City Council hour. Camden’s hour on LaMega is dedicated to community affairs. The broadcast reaches throughout the Delaware Valley. The title of the show is of González’ own choosing. The show is another vehicle for his activism, and his aim is to move Camden forward “on a positive upswing.” Guest speakers talk about positive goings on in and around city of Camden, events and developments that affect the community as a whole and the Puerto Rican community in particular. Common topics are the development along the waterfront, the development of the downtown commercial district, city administration works, and job and health fairs.
