Nelson Rockefeller giving a speech at his rally

Justo A. Martí Photographic Collection, 1948-1985

Nelson Rockefeller at the "Lucky Corner" (E116th St. and Lexington Ave.) in East Harlem (El Barrio) campaigning for New York State governor. The Lucky Corner earned its name from being the site of election-eve rallies for Fiorello LaGuardia's successful campaigns for Congress and mayor of New York City. Numerous politicians would go on to use this fabled intersection for campaign rallies, including Vito Marcantonio and Oscar García Rivera.
