This portion of the interview includes Luis Garden Acosta discussing community involvement in El Puente, including elected officials involvement. He starts by discussing the Young Christian Worker Movement, as a launch for political empowerment. Garden Acosta discusses a negative relationship with Luis A. Olmedo (first PR Councilmember) and a positive relationship with Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez's (first PR Congressperson) and El Puente. He discusses Olmedo's disconnection and disregard for the youth in Williamsburg and briefly discusses the community efforts which helped put Olmedo in jail for one year because of his corruption while in office. Garden Acosta mentions he was the youngest aide working for John Lindsay's anti poverty office and identifies Hugenio Maldonado and Frances Lucerna as co-founders of El Puente. Garden Acosta also discusses El Puente's Three Kings Day celebrations.
