This portion of the Oral History with Luis Garden Acosta is about the Puerto Rican Diaspora galvanizing to bring the issue affecting Puerto Rico to the forefront of conversations in the United States. He talks about Puerto Rico being a major political force in Orlando, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Ohio; New York; Boston; and a growing presence in Texas. He discusses the 3 year long federally funded published article in 2013 regarding the dry spell Puerto Rico is currently facing. He discusses the beach erosion in Isla Verde, and the need to raise consciousness in PR about the crisis. El Puente advocates for this discussion to be part of gubernatorial campaigns. El Puente organized its efforts for Climate Change awareness in Puerto Rico to bring together 200 leaders in various fields ranging from the medical, education, business, tourism and religious sectors. They had a day long dialogue discussing Climate Change. He notes that the Archbishop of San Juan, monsignor Roberto Gonzalez Nieves, and Dr. Jose Molinelli were essential in their participation in the discussion. He also talks about people being aghast at finding out the environmental horror Puerto Rico will soon need to deal with. There are plans to have the largest march ever in Puerto Rico on Climate Change int he near future. He noted that they would make demands to secure life, and prevent and adapt with what is coming.
