CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

Blackburn-Moreno describes the importance of pride in culture because it is what affirms an individuals identity. Blackburn-Moreno explains that during its foundation someone had proposed to call the youth organization “Aspire” but Dr. Pantoja wanted it in Spanish, “Aspira” During the rituals members of Aspira had to take an oath stating that they had to improve themselves and their communities. All of the youth going through the Aspira process and every club is required to complete community service.
