CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

Lau v. Nicholas was Supreme Court case specifically for bilingual Education. It addressed students being left behind and not receiving an equal education because they were taught in English which was not a language that they knew. In 1972, Aspira wanted to find proof that students were failing due to the lack of bilingual education. Aspira had a researchers such as Isabel Santiago, Dr. Luis Reyes to investigate schools and collect evidence that Spanish –speaking students academically suffered from schools not providing bilingual education. In 1974, Aspira was the plaintiff and still oversees the implementation of the Consent Decree.
