Interview with Olga Sanabria-Dávila on June 19, 2014, 1st Session

CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

Sanabria-Dávila discusses her early life being born in Old San Juan and moving to New York City. She discusses her upbringing in the Lower East Side, getting involved with Young Lord activities, and going to Fordham University to study Puerto Rican Studies. Much of the interview is about Sanabria-Dávila’s involvement with the Movimiento Pro-Independencia and the Puerto Rican Socialist Party. She includes stories about experiencing surveillance and COINTELPRO. She also describes her international work with the United Nations all over Latin America highlighting issues of political repression and highlighting Puerto Rico’s status issue. Last, Sanabria-Dávila reflects on the state of the Puerto Rican political situation based on her experience working in international and local Puerto Rican organizations through journalism and activism.
