CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-

Ortiz explains why he decided to run for commissioner in Orlando. He states that he had been working with Commissioner Betty Wyman for three years and learning as much as possible from her. Once Wyman decided to retire, she asked Ortiz if he would considered running for the position. Ortiz agreed, and in 2008 he won the election.
