Lillian López Papers, 1928-2005

Belpré describes her childhood in Puerto Rico and her career as a Puerto Rican librarian in New York City. She in particular goes into detail about her career at the New York Public Library in Harlem and her connection with children as a librarian, and finding a need for Spanish-speaking children to have programs developed for their benefit. She describes how the Puerto Rican community grew in New York City in the early twentieth century and how it influenced the local society in arts, activism, and literature.
