United Bronx Parents

Organization, UBP

United Bronx Parents, Inc. was founded by Evelina López Antonetty in 1965 to address and advocate for the needs of Puerto Rican and minority children in the public school system in the Bronx, NY. A grassroots, voluntary organization, United Bronx Parents offered programs to train and groom parents for leadership roles. In the 1970s the organization expanded, offering day care, adult literacy programs and GED preparation, a youth leadership program and a citywide summer lunch program for children. Community needs dictated the direction and agenda of United Bronx Parents over the years, but the original mission of providing basic services and helping people achieve self-sufficiency remains the same in 2009.
