Beaded Featherweights

Beaded Featherweights

My life I take back
when I choose,
resist the onslaught
of mindless words.
My hands connect seeds
into lavish adornments.
Thoughts create patterns
for ears to be holy.
In the oceans of sound
earrings at play on lobes,
light-catchers in the wind,
guardians dancing
in their songs.
Their names call me as I weave,
say, “This is who I am.”
Inside this art with thread
colors tell stories
of spirit and fire dragons
goddesses rising from the sea,
waterfalls of white,
indigo rain and
Tibetan temples,
sea glass in river sand
along Andalusia;
Egypt and rainforest
always there like
Sphinx alive in El Yunque.
Grandmothers spin canvas
bead portals for poetry
and promises of love
woven together
in the gateway of the mystical.
