First we speak with Connecticut’s Nelson Gonzalez, founder Sofrito Magazine, an online culinary website. In our next segment, we speak with New York’s veteran-turned-actor J.W. Cortes. Finally, we make our way down to Florida for the The National Conference of the Puerto Rican Diaspora.

First off, we interview Nelson Gonzalez, founder of Sofrito Magazine. After developing his passion for cooking with his mother he went on to pursue a career in the culinary arts. He made an illustrious career working throughout the state of Connecticut, and went on create Sofrito Magazine. This online culinary magazine goes beyond recipes and features in-depth interviews and reviews of restaurants, chefs and cookbooks. Tune in as we speak to Nelson about his career and the success of his website.

J.W. Cortes is a Puerto Rican actor currently starring in the Fox hit show Gotham. His transition into becoming an actor wasn’t easy. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the military and served many tours in Iraq. After active duty he went on to pursue a career as an officer in the NYPD. Desiring to do more, he went on into acting. In this segment we interview him about his progression into acting and how his puertorriqueñidad plays a large role in his life and his work.

We close out this episode in Florida with a segment on The National Conference of the Puerto Rican Diaspora. This conference saw some 350 leaders of the Puerto Rican diaspora and sought to unite island and mainland based Puerto Ricans. In this special piece we speak with several conference attendees about the important issues currently affecting the island and the political impact that an alliance of Puerto Ricans could have on national issues.
