Making Connections!

 

Centro Voices - a new peer-reviewed, online magazine devoted to Puerto Rican studies; promoting the interactions of practitioners and university professors; and the exchange of ideas and collaborations with the community.

Centro Events:

• Barrios Series—portraits of specific neighborhoods, their architecture, commerce, community-based organizations, and the impact of gentrification and dislocation.
• Legacy Series – conversations with individual “pioneros” who broke new ground in their communities, organizations, public service, arts, and the media captured on video and tape.
• Research Seminars — graduate students and faculty presenting research-in-progress and receiving feedback from the public.
• Meet the Authors — celebrating book releases or recent publications that contribute to Puerto Rican studies.
• November, Puerto Rican History Month -promoting the use of history from our teachers and students.

Special Events:
• Student Initiatives —opportunities for young scholars to present their work and to explore emerging topics in Puerto Rican Studies.
• Film Corner —forums examining Puerto Rican-themed films, such as La guagua area and La operación ,while introducing new works, artists and producers.
• Conferences and Forums—focusing on the social sciences, humanities, history and the arts.
